In Oswald Chambers—Abandoned to God, you trace the life of this servant of God from his boyhood home in Scotland through an astounding journey of faith and trust in God's provision.

From the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, and ultimately to a YMCA training camp in Egypt during World War I, you'll find Chambers to be a man utterly devoted to God, His Word, and to sharing the timeless wisdom of the Bible with others.

The last six years of his life were spent as principal of the Bible Training College in London and as chaplain to British Commonwealth troops in Egypt during World War I. After Chambers died, at age 43 in 1917, the books that bear his name were compiled by his wife from her own verbatim shorthand notes of his talks.

Chambers never lived to see the book for which he is best known, My Utmost for His Highest, published. He left a spiritual legacy that has touched men, women, politicians, and preachers ever since. Now you can read about this remarkable life well-lived and find inspiration to persevere for the sake of Christ.

Oswald Chambers Abandoned to God The Life Story of the Author of My Utmost for His Highest eBook David McCasland Reviews

This is one of the finest biographies I have ever read. The author has definitely done his homework here....visiting the places of Oswald Chambers' birth, life and ministry. It is amazing the way he ties everything together and makes it so interesting to read. Chambers certainly was an inspirational man and I have been challenged positively by reading his biography. I hope Mr. McCasland will write more biographies and/or novels since he certainly has a wonderful writing style.
I sought this out because I found what I read in 'My Utmost For His Highest' inspiring; I was also encouraged to do so because of its ubiquitous appearances throughout 'Indelible Ink' a collection of citations of formative books by prominent Christians (Phil Keaggy, a master in his own realm cites it as the first of four).
When I say inspiring, perhaps I am referring to a persuasive combination of intelligence and faith that just shines. He came to trust God and delighted in the goodness of his heavenly father, as known through Jesus, who took him to heaven at 43 years of age.
What I was looking for was in fact what he hoped to provide. He wanted people who came in contact with him to forget him, but come to know and serve God.
God is ever God; people vary. Chambers' father was in the ministry and Oswald spent his life surrounded by educated, Godly people. His own early artistic inclinations delayed his entrance into the ministry. Within his cultural environment, Chambers worked hard to come to his spiritual understanding, mainly by getting out of God's way, but also by reading widely and it would seem, deeply.
Despite his wide range of interests, which he considered necessary to his calling, he does not appear to hold out hope for man apart from God. He believed socialism would prove a fruitless delay in man's development.
But most importantly, he took the commandment 'Feed my sheep' as his life mission.
If you've been reading "My Utmost for His Highest" daily, you will be deeply touched by this biography of Oswald Chamber's life. After reading this book, which uses much of Oswald's correspondence, you will understand the heart of this truly spiritual man who loved the Lord above everything. God closed doors on all of Oswald's deepest personal desires and opened doors that he felt he wasn't "designed" for, but God had another plan. It describes his spiritual struggles that tormented him for years until his great epiphany. I read and re-read this book for it's spiritual depth. It always makes me cry. I've bought several copies for others. If you love "My Utmost for His Highest" you just HAVE to read this book.
Chambers' orthodoxy and his life do not neatly fit into any category. He is orthodox, charismatic, evangelical and traditional--but not quite the way we use any of these labels. In the end he is extremely practical and totally committed to God's calling. If you want a book to bolster your arguments for your faith system, then this is not it. If you feel like you're missing something and want simple directions and sound advice on how to find it, you'll love this writing.
This magnificent biography, of one of the most profoundly impactful men of God for the Kingdom of Light, was an absolute delight to read. The inspiring true story of the life, passions, contributions and accomplishments of Rev. Oswald Chambers, reveals how, even almost 100 years after his death, the priceless insights and applicable perspectives into the timeless Truth of God, acquired from a life completely devoted to our Lord Jesus Christ, continue to effectively enrich and transform people's precious lives in such amazing and unimaginable ways. Highlighted with original artwork, poetry and personal diary entries, this truly exceptional chronicle is an absolute treasure for any Christian. I would also like to recognize the stirring encouragement, that the acknowledgment and documented influence, of the role and supremely noble contribution, that his godly wife, "Biddy" Chambers (female), had in preserving, compiling, formatting and publishing the priceless gem of this exceptional man's life's work for the benefit of all humanity. Consider the depth of love and compassion revealed in this insightful diary entry quote August 23, 1917 "I think if I have an ambition, it is just that - to have honourable mention in anyone's personal relationship to our Lord Jesus Christ." page 232
